In the wake of the fifth annual university blockchain research initiative (UBRI) organized by Ripple, the company’s chief legal officer has praised the impact made by the program.
Payments-focused blockchain company Ripple is hosting the fifth edition of its annual UBRI program. The event is designed to unite scholars and researchers in deep discussions about blockchain and also allows participants to showcase initiatives they have built using the technology.
Ripple’s chief legal officer, Stuart Alderoty, was featured on one of the panels on the opening day of this year’s event and had positive things to say about the quality of talent attending the event. Although Alderoty’s panel featured his now common theme of why the U.S. needs regulatory clarity for crypto businesses, the Ripple CLO celebrated the impact of Ripple’s UBRI program via a post on X (formerly Twitter).
He wrote in the post, “It is incredible to see global blockchain & engineering academic talent coming together via this program.” Meanwhile, Alderoty also gave a shoutout to Prof. George Mocsary of the Wyoming School of Law, who hosted the panel on the role of regulations in the crypto space.

Ripple’s UBRI Grooms Talent for XRPL
The Ripple UBRI program represents an effort by the company to nurture blockchain talent and encourage students to explore the technology, especially using Ripple’s XRP Ledger.
The program connects over 45 universities across 20 countries and has committed $11 million to funding blockchain-based research and development efforts. Participants have also immersed themselves in over 1020 academic blockchain research since the program launched in 2018.
Held in Toronto, this year’s event notably focuses on how students and researchers can harness some of the latest trends in the blockchain space, including central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), decentralized finance (DeFi), tokenization, etc.
Four leading European Universities, namely, the University of Trento (Italy), Trinity College Dublin (Ireland), IE Madrid (Spain), and EPITA (France), make the roster of UBRI partners invited for this year’s event.
